Roman Catholic Diocese of Calgary Archives
The Archives were first developed in 1971 by Monsignor Neville Anderson, who took on the job of archivist and diocesan historian when he retired from parish ministry. The history book, From the Buffalo to the Cross: a history of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Calgary' was the first project undertaken at the new Archives and that work helped shape the history of the Archives.
The Archives gathers records of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Calgary, which encompasses southern Alberta. It includes records of interest to Blackfoot Confederacy and Métis communities, as well as those from many different ethnicities. Most of the records relate to the religious and spiritual experiences and cultures of Catholics in southern Alberta.
